An Ode to Kolkata

If Kolkata is lazy , why does my maid come at 6.00 in the morning?
If Kolkata is crowded, how come it takes me only 15 minutes to reach office?
If Kolkata is political , why have I worked on all bandhs
If Kolkata sleeps early, how have I spent so many nights out?

It was the capital of a nation when Delhi wasn't one .
It was a major port when mumbai was still a fishing wharf.
It was city when B'lore was still a village .

Kolkata the city of 1000 cuisines and not hamburgers.
Kolkata the city that plays sports not games.
Kolkata the city where people watch cinema not movies.

It takes time to appreciate finer things in life.
It sure took a long time to appreciate you.

Because you pay her for that. She wont be able to discharge her duties unless she comes at 6:00 am. Lazy is for the other majority, the Bengali babus.

Because you stay close to your office I guess. Talk to others who have to make more use of the Kol public transport and the infrastructure on which it runs.

Because probably more cigarettes are smoked off on a bandh ;-)

Because its your habit I guess and the characteristic of being the sleepy lazy city remain intact. You can assume that you comprise the exceptions. Fair assumption I guess.

I agree, but then obviously they took all the pains to shift because they found a better abode.

Hmmm.. so I guess they were caught napping ;-)

Hmmm.. here I guess they were busy bragging while B'lore was laying the foundation and piling the bricks.

I'm against fast-food so me with you on that but India is a land of cuisines and Kol is an important contributor, I agree.

Haha.. we saw that in Eden Gardens last year, didnt we?

Okay, I dont know abt that but I guess this is the only city where I've heard you can watch a movie while having beer. Ture isnt it? Is this called cinema?

It sure does take time to appreciate finer things in life. And I guess every city has something which gets you attached to it.. maybe Kol does too. As the old saying goes.. beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. We see what we want to see and you're on the right track.. seeing positive. Anyways u've liked all the cities and towns you've been to. Haven't you?
As with this one its always good to read your posts.. keep blogging!
Guess who this is and give me a call :-)
